Mangrove oysters are delicacies to many, especially, communities found around coastal areas. Mangroves serve as habitats and provide protection to oysters by offering a stable substrate and refuge during storms. The sediments that serve as a medium for the growth of these mangroves harbour pathogenic agents causing diarrhoea due to the release of faecal pollutants into the water bodies. There is a high possibility that whatever is in the water and sediment will be taken up by biota (living animals), including the oysters. The C2R-CD project has been sampling mangrove oysters found within the Anyanui river in the Anloga District of Ghana to ascertain the pathways of the transmission of faecal coliforms and diarrhoea pathogens. The expected outcomes of the study will inform policy formulation and actions by the Anloga District Assembly to improve on diarrhoea management.
